Description

Plonmarlimab, also known as TJM2 or TJ003234, is a humanized IgG1 monoclonal antibody that targets and neutralizes granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), a cytokine implicated in inflammatory and autoimmune conditions. CSF2, also known as GM-CSF (Granulocyte-Macrophage Colony-Stimulating Factor), is located on chromosome 5q31. This gene encodes a cytokine that functions as a growth factor for hematopoietic progenitor cells, influencing the proliferation, differentiation, and survival of white blood cells such as granulocytes and macrophages. The CSF2 gene plays a critical role in the immune response by stimulating the production of granulocytes and macrophages from progenitor cells in the bone marrow, thus aiding in the defense against infections and in inflammatory responses. CSF2 is involved in various physiological processes and pathological conditions, including its overexpression in certain cancers and autoimmune diseases. The CSF2 receptor is a heterodimer composed of an alpha subunit (specific for GM-CSF) and a beta subunit shared with other cytokine receptors. Additionally, GM-CSF has been found to modulate inflammatory responses in the central nervous system, particularly influencing microglial cells and playing a role in neuroinflammatory and neurodegenerative disorders.
