Description

Description

PDX1 (pancreas duodenum homeobox-1, also known as IPF-1, IDX-1, and STF-1) is a transcription factor that has been shown to activate insulin, glucokinase, IAPP, and somatostatin gene transcription. Significant interest surrounds this proteins glucose-dependent regulation of insulin gene transcription. Additionally, pdx-1 has been studied for its role in pancreatic development which includes maturation and differentiation of pancreatic precursor cells. Mutations in the pdx-1 gene have been shown to cause pancreatic agenesis, maturity-onset diabetes of the young, and type II diabetes.
