Description

Grow fastidious organisms with clear haemolytic reactions (such as staphylococci) while screening for the presence of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).

Isolate and cultivate fastidious microorganisms with clearly visible haemolytic reactions (staphylococci and streptococci), while simultaneously screening clinical samples for the presence of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), using Thermo Scientific™ Columbia Agar with Sheep Blood PLUS / Brilliance™ MRSA 2 Agar, a single bi-plate that includes two separate media formulations. Identify MRSA and other organisms from one patient sample, plus verify samples are taken correctly if the MRSA result is negative.

The Columbia Agar with blood formulation on one side of the plate contains 5% sheep blood to promote growth of fastidious organisms with clearly visible haemolysis forms for staphylococci and streptococci, and it gives typical growth for S. pneumoniae (dent morphology).

Brilliance MRSA 2 Agar on the other side of the plate allows you to obtain faster results for the presence of MRSA with no need for reincubation of negatives. Get more reliable, more accurate results with this enhanced media formulation which contains two chromogens that differentiate MRSA and non-MRSA by distinctive blue colonies and produces larger MRSA colony growth compared to previous formulations.
