Description

Selectively isolate Aeromonas hydrophila from food, water and environmental specimens with this diagnostic medium

Selectively isolate Aeromonas hydrophila from food, water and environmental samples with the ready-to-use Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Aeromonas Selective Agar. The medium is modification of XLD medium1 designed to support the growth of Aeromonas spp. and Plesiomonas spp. as well as usual Enterobacterioaceae. To improve the selectivity of the medium, ampicillin is added at recommended levels. The recommended level of ampicillin is well below the level which can cause inhibition of some strains of Aermonas.2

Aeromonas spp. occur widely in soil and water including untreated and chlorinated water, raw materials, raw foods and raw milk. Use Aeromonas Medium for selective isolation of Aeromonas hydrophila from environmental samples.

The use of Aeromonas Agar for detection of Aeromonas spp. in tap water, bottled water and foods including meat, poultry, fish and seafoods has been reported by several workers. 4,5,6,7,8
