Human Sodium Iodide Symporter (hNIS) is responsible for iodide concentrating ability within thyroid follicular cells. It is a membrane bound glycoprotein with 13 membrane spanning domains and 14 extra membranous domains. It may represent an autoantigen in thyroid.
