Description
Siglec9 (Sialic acid-binding Ig-like lectin 9) is single-pass type I membrane protein and belongs to immunoglobulin super family and contains two Ig-like C2 type (immunoglobulin-like) domains and one Ig-like V-type (immunoglobulin-like) domain. It is reported that Siglec9 recognizes sialic acid in alpha2, 3-or alpha2, 6-glycosidic linkage to galactose. Using a specific antibody, Siglec9 was found to be expressed at high or intermediate levels by monocytes, neutrophils, and a minor population of CD16+, CD56- cells. Siglec9 also acts as an inhibitory receptor for MUC16 that attenuates T- andNK cell function. Recent reports suggest that Siglec9 expressed on DCs is involved in immuno regulation through ligation with mucins in an epithelial cancer patient.
