Prepare clinical specimens for microscopic examination of fungal elements with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ BactiDrop™ Potassium Hydroxide.The Laboratory Handbook of Medical Mycology recommends the use of 10% KOH for rapid detection of fungal elements1. McGowan reported the use of 10% KOH but warned that a lack of contrast between fungal elements and clinical specimens may occur2. Hence, she recommended phase-contrast microscopy for improved visibility. The formulation of 10% KOH is recommended by the Mayo Clinic Mycology Laboratory3.
