Experience accurate, specific, and sensitive quantification of DNA, RNA, microRNA, protein, and endotoxin with the Qubit Flex Fluorometer. Measure up to eight samples simultaneously using Qubit assay kits for reproducible results in seconds.

The Qubit Flex Fluorometer is designed for highly accurate and sensitive quantification of DNA, RNA, microRNA, protein, and endotoxin. This benchtop fluorometer offers the flexibility to directly measure the fluorescence of up to eight samples simultaneously, which reduces assay variability. Paired with Qubit reagents, the Qubit Flex Fluorometer is part of an optimized workflow generating highly accurate and reproducible results. The fluorometer has a large screen and intuitive user interface, making it easy to select and run your desired assay with results displayed in just a few seconds.

Features of the Qubit Flex Fluorometer include:

  • Improved throughput—measure multiple samples and quantify DNA, RNA, protein, and endotoxin up to 50% faster than single-sample readers
  • Flexibility—measure up to eight samples simultaneously using 1–20 μL of sample
  • Complete optimized system—works seamlessly with Qubit reagents to generate reliable, sensitive, and specific results
  • On-board calculators—quickly generates Qubit working solution preparation instructions and determines the molarity of your samples
  • Easy to use—a large 8-inch, state-of-the-art color touchscreen and intuitive user interface results in easy workflow navigation
  • Data export flexibility—data is transferred easily as a CSV or PDF using the included Wi-Fi dongle, a USB drive, or connection to your network drive
  • Several languages available—choices include English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, simplified Chinese, and Japanese
  • Verification test—a pre-loaded program is included to verify performance of the instrument
  • Qubit Flex SmartStart Digital Educational Experience—includes interactive visual demonstrations of how to install, operate, and maintain your instrument

Higher throughput, less variability than single sample readers

The Qubit Flex Fluorometer has the flexibility to measure multiple DNA, RNA, protein, and endotoxin samples up to 50% faster than single-sample readers. In addition to saving time, the ability to measure eight samples simultaneously reduces variability, resulting in highly reproducible data. The fluorometer includes reagent, range, and molarity calculators, further reducing the time to results. The reagent and range calculators help to determine which reagent and what amount of sample to use to effectively quantify the DNA, RNA, or protein. The molarity calculator allows you to calculate the molarity of your samples based on nucleic acid length and the measured concentration.

Enables more accurate results than UV absorbance at low concentrations

The Qubit Flex Fluorometer is far more sensitive than UV absorbance, which measures anything absorbing at 260 nm, including DNA, RNA, protein, free nucleotides, and excess salts. Moreover, UV spectrophotometry is often not sensitive enough to accurately measure low concentrations of DNA and RNA. With the Qubit Flex Fluorometer, your research is enhanced by more accurate measurements because the dyes in the Qubit assay kits fluoresce only when bound to the target molecule (DNA, RNA, protein, or endotoxin) in your sample. This allows you to avoid repeating work due to inaccurate measurements.

Can the Qubit 1X dsDNA, broad range (BR) Assay Kit (Cat. No. Q33265) be used on the Qubit 3 Fluorometer?

No, this assay is only compatible with Qubit 4 Fluorometer (Cat. No. Q33226) and Qubit Flex Fluorometer (Cat. No. Q33327).

When setting up standard measurements using the Qubit Flex Fluorometer, should I add the standard+reagent mix to all 8 tubes or just one?

You have the flexibility to run less than 8 standards on the Qubit Flex Fluorometer. However, you can only place samples into the wells that have been calibrated. For instance, if you run standards in 6 wells, you can only run samples in those 6 wells (or fewer).

My Qubit Flex Fluorometer (Cat. No. Q33327) cannot detect the WiFi dongle. How can I resolve this?

This issue can be a result of the REV C Wifi dongle being incompatible with firmware versions before 1.6.0. Please check that you are on firmware version 1.6.0 or later.

If the issue persists, please contact Technical Support at techsupport@thermofisher.com.

Can I use the Qubit Endotoxin Detection Assay Kit on the Qubit 4 Fluorometer?

No, the Qubit Endotoxin Detection Assay Kit is designed for use with the Qubit Flex Fluorometer and is not currently for use on the Qubit 4 Fluorometer.

To use the Qubit Endotoxin Detection Assay Kit on the Qubit Flex Fluorometer, do I need to perform a software update ?

Yes, the endotoxin detection assay program will be available on Qubit Flex Software version 1.8.0 or later. The latest software is available under the Resources section of www.thermofisher.com/qubit

Is it possible to design a custom assay on a Qubit Flex Fluorometer (Cat. No. Q33327)?

The Qubit Flex Fluorometer does not have the option for custom assays.

Can the Qubit Flex Assay Tube Strips (Cat. No. Q33252) be cut to run 1 sample or does the full tube strip need to be placed in the Qubit Flex Fluorometer (Cat. No. Q33327)?

Qubit Flex Assay Tube Strips (Cat. No. Q33252) can be cut to run 1 sample with the Qubit Flex Fluorometer (Cat. No. Q33327).

Is the Qubit Flex Fluorometer (Cat. No. Q33327) compatible with custom assays?

No, the Qubit Flex Fluorometer does not have custom assay capability.

The settings options on my Qubit instrument are greyed out and I am being prompted to sign in. How can I resolve this?

Our Qubit 4 and Qubit Flex instruments will now require users to sign in to access certain menu options (i.e., instrument settings, software update, and system verification). This is necessary to adhere to cybersecurity legal standards that were put in place in 2020. Only when signed in, are all functions of the device are accessible.

Which is the best DNA or RNA quantification instrument?

All of the DNA instruments offered by Thermo Fisher Scientific are of excellent quality. To find the right instrument to quantify DNA or RNA in your lab, explore the detailed comparison of UV-Vis spectrophotometers and fluorometers. Things like sensitivity, throughput and budget may be initial considerations when selecting a DNA quantification instrument. You may also consider whether you need target specificity, sample purity information, RNA quality information, or broad dynamic range.

What is the difference between UV and fluorescence DNA quantification? Which DNA quantification technology should I choose?

UV and fluorescence technologies work differently to quantify DNA. UV quantification relies on the intrinsic absorptivity of DNA and RNA molecules, while fluorescence quantification uses dyes that specifically bind to your molecule of choice. With UV technology, quantification isn't as sensitive, but it has a broader dynamic range and also gives data about sample purity‒plus it is faster because there is no reagent prep. With fluorescence technology you get higher sensitivity and molecule-specific data, but it has lower dynamic range and reagent prep is required. The technology you need will depend on what features are important for your lab and experimentation.

When using the Qubit Flex Fluorometer, do I have to use all 8 samples/wells?

No, the Qubit Flex Fluorometer allows you to select which wells will be used for the experiment. The standards and sample will only be read in the selected wells. If the option to select wells is not available on your Qubit Flex, please update to the current firmware version (download firmware from Technical Resources for Qubit Fluorometers). This feature was introduced in version 1.5.0.
