Description
This gene is a member of the aggrecan/versican proteoglycan family. The encoded protein is an integral part of the extracellular matrix in cartilagenous tissue and it withstands compression in cartilage. Mutations in this gene may be involved in skeletal dysplasia and spinal degeneration. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants that encode different protein isoforms have been observed in this gene. [provided by RefSeq

| The antibody reacts with the N-terminal sequence ARGSVIL of ACAN fragments produced by proteolysis at the ACANase site within the interglobular domain of ACAN (ACAN-IGD). It does not react to a significant extent with the sequence ARGSVIL contained within uncleaved polypeptide chains. ARGSVIL-Peptides produced from recombinant ACAN-IGD in the presence of ACANases bind strongly to the antibody both in Western Blots (see aaplication) and in ELISA. ARGSVIL-fragments derived from native ACAN require prior deglycosylation for antibody binding. | |
