Recombinant Protein

Highest antigen sequence indentity to the following orthologs: Mouse (88%), Rat (88%). This recombinant protein control fragment may be used for blocking experiments with the corresponding antibody, PA5-84785 (PA5-84785. In IHC/ICC and WB experiments, we recommend a 100x molar excess of the protein fragment control based on the concentration and the molecular weight. Pre-incubate the antibody-protein control fragment mixture for 30 min at room temperature.

FTO is a novel protein and a member of the non-heme dioxygenase (Fe(II)-and 2-oxoglutarate-dependent dioxygenases) superfamily. Amino acid conservation patterns support this hypothesis and indicates that both 2-oxoglutarate and iron should be important for FTO function. Though not much is yet known about FTO, it is thought that the protein may somehow modify the activity of genes involved in metabolism and fat storage, which in turn may influence a person's risk of obesity.
