Description
HMGB3, also known as High mobility group protein B3, is a DNA associated protein that binds preferentially single-stranded DNA and unwinds double stranded DNA. This transcription factor belongs to the HMGB family and high mobility group (HMG) protein superfamily and contains two HMG box DNA-binding domains. Like other members of the family, HMGB3 plays a fundamental role in DNA replication, nucleosome assembly and transcription. Other functions include regulation of balance between hematopoietic stem cell self-renewal and differentiation and may also be required during embryonic development. HMGB3 is predomitly expressed in placenta.
