(+)-Dehydroisoandrosterone, CAS # 53-43-0, also known as androstenolone, is an endogenous steroid hormone precursor. It is an intermediate in the conversion of cholesterol to androgens and estrogens.

This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Acros Organics product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand. The original Acros Organics product / item code or SKU reference has not changed as a part of the brand transition to Thermo Scientific Chemicals.

General Description
• (+)-Dehydroisoandrosterone is an endogenous steroid hormone precursor that acts as an intermediate in the conversion of cholesterol to androgens and estrogens
Applications
• It is an endogenous and naturally occurring steroid hormone produced largely by the adrenal glands, but also by the testes and ovaries
• It has been described that (+)-Dehydroisoandrosterone could have a role in the immune and stress response
• (+)-Dehydroisoandrosterone can be converted to testosterone, androstenedione, estradiol, and estrone
• (+)-Dehydroisoandrosterone is derived from cholesterol through the action of two cytochrome P450 enzymes
• It can induce both direct and indirect in vivo biological effects, by modulating GABA- α receptor and N-Methyl-D-aspartic acid (NMDA) receptor complexes.
• It can also increase pancreatic β cell insulin secretion and anti-glucocorticoid activity
• It is useful to detect excess adrenal activity since it is produced nearly exclusively by the adrenal glands
