Defined Keratinocyte Serum-Free Medium (SFM) consistis of Defined Keratinocyte Serum Free Basal Medium that, with the addition of Defined Keratinocyte SFM Growth Supplement, eliminates the need for bovine pituitary extract, offering a defined media solution for the culture of keratinocytes.

Defined Keratinocyte SFM is a serum-free defined medium optimized for the isolation and expansion of human keratinocytes without the need for bovine pituitary extract (BPE) supplementation or the use of fibroblast feeder layers.

The growth-promoting activity of BPE has been replaced by the inclusion of growth promoting agents which enhance consistent product performance. These growth-promoting agents also maintain cell morphology, physiological markers, and growth. The medium is formulated to inhibit fibroblast proliferation and has a low calcium concentration (<0.1 mM), allowing for the isolation and culture of highly enriched populations of undifferentiated keratinocytes.

Defined Keratinocyte-SFM consists of a basal liquid medium and frozen supplement which is added at the time of use. The fully supplemented medium has a shelf-life of 10 weeks under normal use conditions. Product performance is confirmed by evaluation of human primary keratinocyte growth.
