Description
It is used as a catalyst in certain organic transformations like synthesis of ynamides. It is used in Fehling's solution and Benedict's solution for testing reducing sugars, in the Biuret reagent for testing proteins, and in combination with potassium permanganate for testing blood for anemia. It is used in the preparation of Cheshunt compound for horticulture. It finds use as a coloring ingredient in artworks, as an oxidant in combination with potassium permanganate for oxidizing primary alcohols, and as a mordant in dyeing. It is used to etch copper or zinc plates for intaglio print making.
