Applications
Benzethonium chloride is used as a surface disinfectant and a preservative in food processing and pharmaceutical industries. It is involved in the determination of sodium dodecyl sulfate using sulphan blue as indicator from the mixture containing other ingredients like sodium chloride and sodium sulfate. It is an effective cationic detergent due to its positively charged hydrophilic part of quaternary ammonium ion. It is an active ingredient in medicaments, deodorants and mouthwashes.
