Albumin is used for enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISAs), immunoblots and immunohistochemistry. It acts as a blocking reagent particularly useful with casein-sensitive antibodies, such as phospho-specific antibodies. It is also used as a nutrient in cell and microbial culture. Further, it is used as a protein standard, diluent, enzyme stabilizer and in cell culture applications especially serum-free media.
