Calcitonin is a polypeptide hormone produced in the thyroid by parafollicular cells (C-Cells). It reduces blood calcium levels in opposition to the effects of parathyroid hormone. It participates in both calcium and phosphorus metabolism, stimulates osteoblast activity, and inhibits intestinal calcium absorption, osteoclast activity, and renal tubular cell calcium absorption. Calcitonin levels in the blood are dictated by blood calcium levels. Acts as an agonist for CALCR. Provided as 1mg of dry powder alongside reconstitution buffer.
