Select and identify salmonellae (other than Salmonella Typhi) from food, feed and water samples with Thermo Scientific™ Modified Brilliant Green Agar (Dehydrated). The modified formula provides improved inhibition of Escherichia coli and Proteus species. The medium has been widely assessed in Europe and has been used in ISO standards1, 2, 3.

Salmonella are a group of closely related rod-shaped, Gram-negative bacteria. Salmonella typically live in animal and human intestines and are shed through feces. Humans become infected most frequently through contaminated water or food. The most common symptoms of Salmonella infection are diarrhoea, fever, abdominal cramps and vomiting.

Use Modified Brilliant Green Agar for selection and identification of salmonellae from food and feed samples.

  • Restricts the growth of Pseudomonas species whose colonies may resemble salmonellae on Brilliant Green Agar and cause confusion or extra work to confirm their identity.
  • Provides greater inhibition of Escherichia coli and Proteus species than other formulations1.
  • ISO compliant: complies with ISO 6579.
