Description

Description

Pro-Lab Diagnostics™ Microbiological Stain solutions are manufactured in purpose-designed laboratories to the highest standards using the finest raw materials. Strict quality control and filtering techniques are employed prior to release to ensure that all solutions offer excellent performance characteristics.

Acid-fast organisms, such as Mycobacterium, have wax-like, nearly impermeable cell walls that make them highly resistant to typical microbiological stains. They require staining via either the Ziehl-Neelsen (ZN) method, which requires heating, or the Kinyoun method, which does not. The basic method seen in Gram staining is used: a primary stain is applied, a differentiator removes the stain from non-acid-fast organisms and a counterstain is then applied to identify the decolored organisms.

  • Ready-to-use stain in convenient and economical sizes
  • The most common primary stain for use with the Ziehl-Neelsen method
  • Lipid-soluble red stain contains phenol, which helps the stain penetrate the cell wall
