Specificity: ABS 038-14-02 shows some cross-Specificity with NGAL from pig and dog. Reactivity: ABS 038-14-02 binds human NGAL in solution and coated onto a solid phase. ABS 038-14-02 can be used as a capture antibody in a sandwich ELISA using biotinylated detection antibodies HYB 211-01-02, HYB 211-02-02, ABS 038-04-02, ABS 038-15-02 and ABS 038-26-02. Using biotinylated ABS 038-15-02 as a detection antibody, the assay reacts equally with NGAL monomer and homodimer on a mass basis. With biotinylated ABS 038-14-02 detection antibody, the assay is specific for NGAL homodimer and can be used at sample dilutions giving low levels of total NGAL. NOTE: Concentration is lot-dependent and can vary from 0.85-1.15 mg/mL

NGAL (Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin, lipocalin 2, siderocalin and neutrophil lipocalin) is a 25 kDa glycosylated single chain monomer and member of the lipocalin family of proteins that bind and transport small lipophilic molecules. NGAL is released by activated neutrophils, can form dimers and small amounts of higher oligomers, and complexes with matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9, gelatinase B). Low level expression of NGAL in a variety of epithelia may be increased in inflammation or cancers. Expression of NGAL in the kidney is dramatically increased by ischemic or nephrotoxic kidney injury.
